Dance Marathon at UCLA (DM) is the largest student-organized philanthropic event on the West Coast. Initiated and run entirely by students, the 26-hour dance-a-thon unites college students, activists, and community members in the fight against pediatric AIDS.
In response to the devastating global AIDS pandemic, students at UCLA have rallied together to put on a 26-hour annual dance-a-thon to raise money for the cause and to acknowledge the battle of children suffering from AIDS by fighting their own personal battle: staying on their feet for the duration of the event. With thousands of participants every year, live music, and appearances by celebrities and activists alike, Dance Marathon has raised nearly $1.37 million to support HIV-positive children around the world. Our proceeds benefit the Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric AIDS Foundation - the largest pediatric AIDS foundation in the United States - as well as Project Kindle and OneHeartland, two programs that promise HIV-affected children the camp experience of a lifetime. In 2008, Dance Marathon united over 2,500 supporters and grossed $385,000 in financial contributions.
Dance Marathon is February 21-22, 2009. If you would like to get more involved, please visit www.bruindancemarathon.org.
